A few names come to mind when you think of the first white rappers. Vanilla Ice, Eminem, how about Bubba Sparxxx, truly a pioneer in the game.

An anomaly of his time, a large white male from the dirty south stunned his community and the hip-hop world by becoming a breakout sensation with his first hit single, “Ugly,” in 2001. As the first white rapper to really breakthrough coming from the Georgia countryside, his music has been heard worldwide.

He hit the charts and went all the way to #1. Then again, in 2006, Bubba topped the charts with another hit song, “Ms. New Booty.” Featuring the Ying Yang Twins, Bubba Sparxxx had become a superstar.

Bubba has been in the game for over twenty years, working with some of the world’s biggest stars. He was signed to Interscope and produced by Timbaland. The man paved the way for a whole sub-genre of music known as country rap or “Crap,” as Bubba stated in his interview on Life of a Lifer podcast before he dropped his album, “King of Crap.” Even though Bubba paved the way to the very controversial country rap genre, he proclaims himself as a Hip-Hop artist. As he was first influenced by the sounds of 2 Live Crew, N.W.A, Easy E, and Too Short. He started writing his rhymes at age fifteen.

Designed Conviction first collaborated with Bubba on the Free Taylor EP with Seth Anthony. And this time, Bubba collaborated with Designed Conviction founder Taylor Tom on a new single for his album “Mind over Matter.” The album will also feature Seth Anthony and Burden with a remixed version of the Free Taylor EP and a few other brand new Taylor Tom songs. Bubba was so moved by the story he had to get involved in this collaboration.

Bubba Sparxxx has been through many ups and downs throughout his career. One thing for sure and two things for certain: he has left his mark on the game. He’s proven himself to be an ill MC regardless of what the critics may say.
